Dubai state utility Dewa plans to add three new gas-fired turbines at its Aweer H power station, on the outskirts of Dubai city, with a combined generating capacity of 700MW. This fourth phase of the Aweer H development will take the plant’s total capacity to 2.67GW.

The turbines are scheduled to come online in January-April 2020. Dewa says they will run entirely on natural gas. Operating in open cycle mode they will require a total gas supply of 120mn cfd at full capacity, MEES estimates. Aweer H phase 4 takes the UAE’s total gas-fired capacity under development to 5.38GW. Given the mixture of open and combined cycle plants under development, MEES estimates the total additional gas required at 670mn cfd. (CONTINUED - 588 WORDS)
