The UAE is gearing up to receive its second floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) this summer, off the coast of Ruwais, an industrial city in western Abu Dhabi, as gas demand grows. Meanwhile, plans to develop a 9mn tons/year onshore import facility in the eastern emirate of Fujairah look increasingly in doubt.

The FSRU is to be moored in August and chartered by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) from US-based shipping company Excelerate. It will be able to process about 500mn cfd, MEES understands, with the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (Adwea) cited as the main off-taker.
