Pakistan Gulf Diplomacy Picks Up Further

Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan headed to Doha this week for high level talks with Qatar’s leadership. The countries agreed to increase bilateral trade, but the most critical element of talks would have been on Qatari LNG sales to Pakistan. Qatar supplies the bulk of Pakistan’s LNG needs (84% in 2017), but Islamabad is seeking to secure lower prices ( MEES, 31 August 2018 ). So far, Mr Khan has worked on balancing relations with its critical Gulf trade partners and investors in the face of the GCC rift. Pakistan has already bagged critical aid from Saudi Arabia and the UAE, and is banking on major investments from them in the coming weeks ( MEES, 11 January ). (CONTINUED - 111 WORDS)
