Kuwait Eyes Push Into US Petchems With Award Of MEG Plant Contract

Kuwait’s overseas petrochemicals expansion is gathering momentum with the award by MEGlobal to US firm Jacobs Engineering of a contract to provide engineering, procurement and construction management services for a 750,000 tons/year ethylene glycol plant at Freeport, Texas.

The plant will be MEGlobal’s first foray into the US, enabling it to compete for growing demand in the US and Asian markets. MEGlobal already operates three ethylene glycol plants in Canada’s Alberta province, the country’s oil sands heartland. Jacobs has already completed front end engineering design (FEED) for the Freeport project, which incorporates proprietary technology from US petrochemicals giant Dow Chemical. The plant will be built within a complex operated by Dow, which has equity in two of Kuwait’s petchems firms. (CONTINUED - 611 WORDS)
