Italian firm Eni has made an ‘important’ gas discovery in the Abu Madi licence in the onshore Nile Delta, some 120km north-east of Alexandria, the company announced on 20 July. Eni hopes the new discovery, estimated to hold 0.53 tcf of “will be put into production in two months’ time through a tie-in to the existing Abu Madi gas treatment plant, located 25km south-east.”
Reaching a total depth of 3,600ms, the Nidoco NW2 Dir NFW well struck 60ms of gas the firm says.
Eni says the discovery is part of the firm’s new “strategy to re-focus its activity on near field and incremental exploration opportunities with high potential value, which allow in case of success their quick exploitation through the already existing and synergic nearby infrastructures.”
