Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco) and Saudi Aramco have requested proposals for two engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract packages for a long-planned 115km pipeline to take crude oil from Aramco’s Abqaiq processing plant to Bapco’s Sitra refinery.
The packages will cover construction of the pipeline in two sections: a 42km offshore section and a 73km onshore section. Prequalification of bidders is scheduled for the second quarter of 2015.
“The project is to replace the current ageing crude oil pipeline between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain with a new 30-inch diameter pipeline,” Bapco general manager for major engineering projects ‘Abd al-Jabbar ‘Abd al-Karim says. “It will also cater for a future increase in crude oil demand following implementation of the Bapco Modernization Program (BMP).”
