Lead contractor Hyundai Engineering and Construction of Korea has awarded subcontracts to UK-based Atkins and Switzerland-based ABB for civil engineering design and electrical equipment installation respectively on the $1.5bn Mirfa IWPP project in Abu Dhabi.
Hyundai E&C, Hyundai Engineering and Italy’s Ansaldo are building the plant for Mirfa IWPP partners Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Company (ADWEC) and France’s GDF Suez, under a $988mn EPC contract (MEES, 11 July 2014).
Atkins will provide civil design review and assistance in meeting Abu Dhabi’s sustainability and environmental standards. In particular, Atkins will ensure Mirfa’s civil works conform to the emirate’s Estidama regulations for sustainability in construction and operation of buildings.
