Iraq’s oil ministry has awarded Czech contractor Technoexport a project to build a new 70,000 b/d CDU at the 210,000 b/d Basra refinery. Technoexport added a similar unit at the three-train refinery in 2013.
Construction of the fourth CDU will be a separate project to an upgrading capacity expansion at Basra, for which France’s Technip and Japanese engineering consultant Unico were awarded a project management contract earlier this year. Technip then said that the expansion is aimed at “increasing gasoline production capacity through the installation of a new catalytic cracking unit and associated units like a visbreaker, hydrotreater and hydrogen plant.”
