King ‘Abd Allah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy (Kacare) and the Royal Commission of Jubail and Yanbu (RCJY) will conduct a joint feasibility study into the construction of a 50MW solar power station at Yanbu Industrial City. No start-up target has been announced.

While the project will not be large compared with Saudi Arabia’s conventional power plants, the agreement between Kacare and RCJY shows momentum growing for the kingdom’s ambitious solar plans. This will be the second utility-scale Saudi solar plant, following a 50MW project announced by Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) and King ‘Abd al-’Aziz City for Science and Technology (Kacst).
