In Saudi Arabia, Good (Energy) Manners Begin At Home

Saudi Aramco recently launched a new in-house magazine called Desert Sun. The weekly publication gives little insight on the inner workings of the world’s largest integrated oil company in terms of reserves. It does, however, provide some nuggets of information that highlight the challenges that face the OPEC state as it tries to tackle high domestic energy consumption.

Each of the four editions published so far contain advice on how to conserve energy. Fill your dishwasher to capacity and set it to the economy cycle, select double-sided printing as a default setting on printers and use energy efficient light bulbs, it advises staff and their families. The latest edition, posted on the Aramco website on 17 September contains an article about an Aramco bowling team taking part in a bowling event, “Bowl for Power”, to promote energy conservation.
