Duqm Refinery and Petrochemical Industries Company (DRPIC) has invited bids for site preparation for a $6bn refinery in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm on Oman’s east coast.
Work is expected to start in the first quarter of 2015, for completion in first quarter 2016. The site work tender is expected to be followed by prequalification for an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the refinery in third quarter 2014.
DRPIC appointed Shaw Group as project management consultant for the 230,000 b/d refinery in August 2012. The US contractor’s energy and chemicals unit was subsequently taken over by France’s Technip. Switzerland-registered Foster Wheeler has reportedly been lined up for the front-end engineering design (FEED) projects for the refinery, although the contract has not been officially confirmed. The EPC award is expected in second quarter 2016.
