Oman’s energy minister Salim al-Aufi told the Gastech conference in Bangkok on 14 September that alternative bypass routes were needed for Gulf LNG. “Be it north or through Oman or through Yemen. Diversify your options to get the resources out of the area,” he said.
LNG has largely been trapped in the Gulf since March, with dominant producer Qatar losing billions in export revenues from its 77mn t/y Ras Laffan facilities (MEES, 18 September). Adnoc’s existing 6mn t/y Das facility and under-construction 9.6mn t/y Ruwais project both sit inside the Gulf, and it is now mulling a new facility on the country’s east coast (MEES, 14 August).
