Algerian oil production has failed to rise significantly so far this year despite two key new oilfields – Anadarko-operated El Merk and ENI-operated Menzel Lejmat East (MLE) – coming onstream.

Algerian state firm Sonatrach has placed “temporary” and ongoing production restrictions on El Merk, the giant nearby Cepsa-operated Ourhoud field and other nearby fields in eastern Algeria’s Berkine Basin production heartland.
