Qatar Petroleum (QP) and Qatar Petrochemical Company (Qapco) have awarded a project management services contract for the Al-Sejeel petrochemical complex at Ras Laffan to Bechtel. The complex is due to be operational in 2018.Bechtel’s work would begin with front-end engineering and design.

Announcing the signing of technology license contracts for the project, QP said the complex would feature a world scale [1.4mn tons/year] mixed feed steam cracker, with a feedstock of ethane, butane and naphtha allowing extra flexibility and diversity in terms of products (MEES, 28 June). While there have been reports that gas for Al-Sejeel would come from the Barzan development within the North Field, Bechtel says only that feedstock will come from “natural gas projects located in the north of Qatar.” (CONTINUED - 286 WORDS)
