Qatar Petroleum (QP) and Qatar Petrochemical Company (Qapco) announced on 12 June the signing of two technology license contracts for the Al-Sejeel petrochemical complex, to be built in Ras Laffan Industrial City. Both contracts went to US firms: Univation Technologies for its polyethylene process and Dow Chemical for its polypropylene technology.

QP signed a heads of agreement with Qapco in February 2012 for joint development of the plant, with QP holding 80% of the project and Qapco holding 20%. The state firm said that Al-Sejeel is scheduled for completion in 2018: “It will feature a world-scale [1.4mn tons/year] mixed feed steam cracker, with the mixed feedstock of ethane, butane and naphtha allowing extra flexibility and diversity in terms of products.” (CONTINUED - 277 WORDS)
