Qatar Gas Transport Company (Nakilat), the world’s largest LNG shipping company, is subject to changing LNG market dynamics that are likely to have a profound impact on its operations.

In tandem with Qatar, which has ratcheted up its LNG production to become the world’s largest producer and exporter, Nakilat has seen significant fleet growth over the past several years and now transports 16% of global LNG. But Qatar’s moratorium on further development of the North Field reduces future growth potential for Nakilat. In a statement to local media, Nakilat’s Managing Director, Muhammad Ghannam, noted that the company is unlikely to expand its fleet until Qatar decides to expand its gas production.
