GCC states are worried about a “grand deal” between Tehran and Washington. The basic elements of such a deal have become clear: the US wants international inspection of the Iranian nuclear program; the Iranians want economic sanctions to be lifted and an end to US intervention in domestic Iranian affairs. The GCC members fear Tehran may also be seeking greater recognition as the ‘leading’ regional power.
