Abu Dhabi has inaugurated the $2.7bn Shuweihat S2 power and water plant as it looks to provide for a population that is expected to double to 5mn by 2030. Initially started up in March 2012, the plant – operating at full capacity – takes Abu Dhabi’s total nameplate generating capacity to 12.74GW, and its desalination capacity to 4.11mn cmd.

The plant was built 260km southwest of the city of Abu Dhabi and was inaugurated by Shaikh Hamdan Al Nahyan, the representative of the emirate’s ruler Shaikh Khalifa Al Nahyan in the western region. (CONTINUED - 533 WORDS)
