• Sharjah-based Dana Gas has made a natural gas discovery in Egypt’s Nile Delta, the company said on 22 October, estimating the deposit at between 4 and 6bn cu ft. This latest discovery was made at the West Sama-1 well in the West El-Qantara concession, and represents the company’s second 2012 discovery after Egypt’s Komombo concession in the second quarter. Dana Gas has in recent years cut back its activity, drilling only six new wells last year, relative to the 14 it had originally planned. This discovery comes after the Egyptian Gas Derivatives Company’s NGL extraction plant at Ras Shukheir started up, in which Dana Gas has a 26.4% stake. When fully operational, the plant will extract 120,000 tons/year of propane and butane from a 150mn cfd gas stream.

• Oil and gas independent Kuwait Energy has made a new oil discovery at its Ahmad-2 well, located in the Area A license in Egypt’s Gulf of Suez. It represents the company’s fifth exploration success in the concession and its 19th discovery in the country since 2008. The firm said this was the first time the well had encountered oil in the Rudeis formation, with initial tests showing a 1,300 b/d flow rate. Kuwait Energy holds operatorship and a 70% stake in the concession, with Omani independent Petrogas E&P holding the remaining 30%. Daily average Egyptian production in 2Q12 was estimated at 12,027 b/d (MEES, 6 August). (CONTINUED - 348 WORDS)
