Kuwait gas production rebounded to a four-month high of 1.32bn cfd in June, Jodi data show. The increase from just 370mn cfd came as Kuwait managed to bring crude oil production back up to 1.65mn b/d thanks to the start of regular ‘shuttle run’ exports through the Strait of Hormuz (MEES, 12 June). This drove a significant increase in associated gas output, and the gains should have continued into July.
Despite the increase, gas production was still down 37% year-on-year, underscoring the extent of the disruption caused by the Hormuz crisis. In total just 310mn cfd was supplied to power plants, around 50% of year-ago levels, and Kuwait’s overstretched power system has only been able to maintain stability thanks to the conflict’s impact on demand and to electricity imports from its GCC neighbors (MEES, 24 July).
