Saudi Arabia has added 2.56GW of new gas-fired CCGT power generation capacity this week. In regulatory filings on 24 September, Acwa said that it has received the Initial Commercial Operation Certificate for the first units at the Qassim 1 and Taiba 1 power plants. At the 1.896GW Qassim 1 plant, 1.28GW is now operational, while at the 1.934GW Taiba 1 plant, 1.27GW is operational. Acwa has a 40% stake in each plant, alongside Saudi Energy and Haji Abdullah Alireza & Co.
The announcement came a week after EDF announced that its 2GW Taiba 2 CCGT plant had been connected to the grid (MEES, 18 September). The company tells MEES that its 2GW Qassim 2 CCGT will be connected to the grid in Q4. (CONTINUED - 142 WORDS)
