American shale specialist EOG Resources announced in its Q2 results this week that it had flowed oil from two wells drilled in its concession in Abu Dhabi. Two one-mile lateral wells were drilled in June and produced more than 25,000 barrels each over the month, said CEO Ezra Yacob – this is before the horizontal wells and fracking that are key to commercial development. EOG was awarded a 100% exploration stake in Unconventional Onshore Block 3 last year. The exploration phase is for three years, and Adnoc retains the right to farm-in if it moves to production.
