The Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) awarded four contracts for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) on 20 August, with combined storage capacity of 8GWh. The awards were made through the kingdom’s first competitive tendering process for BESS and entail total investment of $1.16bn (MEES, 3 January 2025). Each unit will be able to provide 500MW to the grid over a four hour period.
A consortium grouping Saudi Energy, Acwa and Al Sharif Contracting and Commercial De-velopment Company won the Al Muwyah, Haden and Al Kahafa projects, while a consorti-um of Engie and Haji Abdullah Alireza & Co won the Al Khushaybi contract. (CONTINUED - 125 WORDS)
