Chinese contractor Sepco-III has announced a major landmark at two gas-fired CCGT power plant projects in Saudi Arabia. In social media posts this week, it announced the successful ignition of the first gas turbines at the Taiba-1 and Qassim-1 power plants. Each plant will have around 2GW capacity, and they are due to begin commercial operations in 2027. The power plants are being developed by a consortium of Acwa, SEC and Haji Abdullah Alireza & Co, which were awarded 25-year power purchase agreements in 2023 (MEES, 3 November 2025).
