Arab and Islamic leaders meeting in Doha on 15 September issued a strongly worded communiqué condemning Israel’s strike on Qatar (MEES, 12 September) but failed to come up with a plan for joint action in response to what they called a “flagrant act of aggression against an Arab and Islamic State.”
The response was not unexpected and reflected the inability or the unwillingness of Qatar’s wealthy GCC neighbors to antagonize the US, which remains a staunch backer of Israel. US President Donald Trump expressed dissatisfaction with Israel over the 9 September attack targeting Palestinian Hamas leaders in the Qatari capital but did not condemn it. (CONTINUED - 237 WORDS)
