Oman’s gas network owner and operator OQ Gas Networks (OQGN) is looking to add carbon capture facilities to the 1.5GW Ibri combined-cycle gas plant. OQGN “identified [Ibri] as a key priority” for carbon capture in the sultanate and “coordinated with Oxy on the way forward to jointly assess capture opportunities.” The two firms previously signed an MoU in late 2023 to study carbon capture projects in Oman.

Oxy is a leading figure in direct air capture (DAC) carbon capture and has a sizeable upstream presence in Oman. OQGN is developing a master plan for a carbon dioxide transportation network infrastructure to link emission sources with storage and utilization sites. It is also collaborating with Shell on the proposed 200,000 t/y Blue Horizons blue hydrogen project which is still in the pre-FEED stage (MEES, 26 July 2024). (CONTINUED - 134 WORDS)
