On 14 August, Abu Dhabi state offtaker Emirates Water and Electricity Company (Ewec) released a request for proposal (RFP) for the 3.3GW Al Nouf “carbon-capture-ready” CCGT plant due online in 3Q 2029. The announcement says the plant will have “lower emissions, supporting the UAE’s long-term decarbonisation agenda,” and Dewa expects responses to the RFP by 4Q 2025.

Although Ewec has displaced considerable amounts of gas from its systems through the addition of nuclear and renewable power plants, it still sees gas a key long-term part of the mix (MEES, 1 August). Power demand is expected to increase significantly in the years ahead as the UAE invests in power-hungry AI data centers, and the Al Nouf plant would help meet these needs. (CONTINUED - 118 WORDS)
