The first of two sidetrack wells has added 60mn cfd to output at Egypt’s flagship Zohr gas field, the country’s Petroleum Ministry announced on 27 June. Neither the ministry nor operator, Italian firm Eni say what current production levels are at Zohr but MEES understands output is averaging around 1.4bn cfd, 56% below official 3.2bn cfd capacity.
Steep decline rates at Zohr, whose annual peak of 2.74bn cfd came in 2021, has meant that the new well is only likely to stem a portion of the monthly losses. The Saipem 10000 has now “moved on to carry out its planned tasks and commenced drilling operations at the Zohr-13 well, which is expected – according to engineering studies – to add 55 million cubic feet per day of gas,” the ministry adds.
