Production capacity at Abu Dhabi’s offshore Upper Zakum field currently stands at 1mn b/d, and the concession partners (Adnoc 60%, ExxonMobil 28%, Inpex 12%) are working to increase it to 1.2mn b/d by 2027. An agreement was announced during US President Donald Trump’s visit to the UAE in May to expand this further (MEES, 6 June), and MEES understands that this will entail an expansion to 1.5mn b/d. The field produces medium-sour 34° API, 1.75% crude which is shipped from Zirku Island.
