On the 7 October, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) group announced that it had received numerous reports of interference with ship satellite navigation systems over the previous three days. According to the group “reports were concentrated around Bandar-e-Pars, Strait of Hormuz and Port Sudan,” affecting shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf.

In response to the rise in signal jamming Qatar’s transport ministry issued an alert on 4 October calling on all ships “to temporarily suspend maritime navigation activities due to a technical fault in the GPS.” Five days later it announced the full return of normal activities.
