Two key tribes within Yemen’s central Marib region have sided with the country’s internationally-recognized government in Aden against growing opposition to the management of the sale and distribution of oil products in the area.

Tribal militants increased road blocks and sit-ins since the beginning of February after the government raised gasoline and diesel prices. Groups have threatened to target oil facilities if the prices aren’t lowered, and tensions reached a new high after government forces killed a militant attempting to hijack a fuel truck on 8 February.
