Saudi Aramco has awarded contracts worth more than $3.3bn for the construction of a new NGL fractionation plant near the Gulf industrial city of Jubail. A joint venture of Spain’s Técnicas Reunidas (65%) and Chinese state firm Sinopec Engineering (35%) was selected as the EPC contractor for the project and awarded a lumpsum contract for the facility.

The JV will develop the two-train Riyas NGL plant capable of fractioning 510,000 b/d of NGLs, producing ethane, propane, butane and pentane. It forms part of the downstream portion of the Jafurah Basin unconventional gas development which by 2030 will produce 2bn cfd sales gas alongside 418mn cfd of ethane and 630,000 b/d of NGLs and condensate (MEES, 17 November 2023).
