Output from the US number two Bakken Shale basin of North Dakota has halved in recent days due to severe winter storms. Speaking on 16 January the North Dakota Pipeline Authority said that output was down by 600-650,000 b/d. Output had recently been running at around 1.3mn b/d.

However, though the US’ southern oil heartland of Texas has also been hit by unseasonably cold weather, the impact has so far been less than feared, with just one refinery, TotalEnergies’ 240,000 b/d Port Arthur plant, offline due to a power failure since 16 January. (CONTINUED - 93 WORDS)
