Murray Auchincloss, who had been acting BP CEO since the abrupt ouster of Bernard Looney in September, was on 17 January awarded the top job “with immediate effect.”

BP says former CFO Auchincloss will “continue our disciplined transformation to an integrated energy company” as opposed to one focused solely on oil and gas. However, as per the word ‘disciplined’, both BP and Auchincloss have in recent times signaled a rowing back from the rapid energy transition agenda set out by Mr Looney in August 2020 after taking over as CEO earlier that year.
