Qatar fought back to reclaim its position as the world’s largest LNG exporter in 2022, overtaking Australia for the first time since 2019 according to the latest figures from global LNG exporters association Giignl (see chart 1). Long-term buyers sought to maximize their contractual deliveries from Qatar as spot prices went through the roof, while Qatar itself squeezed as much as it could from its liquefaction plants to capitalize on those sky-high spot prices where possible.
