Saudi private developer Acwa Power announced on 12 April that it is to develop the 600,000m³/d Rabigh 4 Independent Water Plant (IWP) in Saudi Arabia. Financial close on the SAR2.54bn ($677mn) plant is expected in Q3. The reverse osmosis (RO) plant on Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea coast will serve the Mecca and Medina regions and is due to start operating in 2026.

The firm has signed water purchase agreements with state offtaker Saudi Water Partnership Company which will be the sole buyer of volumes from the plant. SWPC CEO Khalid al-Quraishi says “Rabigh 4 has been designed to use less electricity, lower operating costs, and support local content across both supply chain and employment.” (CONTINUED - 133 WORDS)
