Abu Dhabi state firm Adnoc hailed the 15 February arrival of the first cargo of LNG from the emirate to Germany as a “landmark cargo.” The 137,000m³ cargo was “the commissioning cargo for the new floating LNG terminal in Brunsbüttel and the first-ever LNG cargo to be shipped to Germany from the Middle East.” Germany’s emergence as a new LNG importer is a major development stemming from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Until last year, the vast majority of Germany’s gas needs were supplied by Russian pipeline.

Ahmed Alebri, Acting CEO of the newly formed Adnoc Gas (MEES, 17 February) said the delivery “demonstrates how the UAE is continuing to work closely with our strategic partners in responsibly providing secure, sustainable and affordable energy supplies,” adding that “Adnoc Gas stands ready to provide further shipments of this key transition fuel to our partner, RWE and German industry.” (CONTINUED - 209 WORDS)
