Abu Dhabi has dispatched an LNG cargo to Europe’s newest importer, Germany, as Berlin strives to replace Russian piped gas. The cargo, heading for the newly-inaugurated Brunsbüttel terminal follows an agreement reached during German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s visit to the UAE in September (MEES, 30 September 2022).

The facility is operated by RWE, which entered into an agreement with Adnoc on the sidelines of the visit for the delivery of a 137,000 m³ shipment of LNG to Brunsbüttel by the end of December. Data intelligence firm Kpler shows that this target was missed, with the shipment instead loading from Abu Dhabi’s Das Island facilities on 11 January and scheduled to arrive in Germany late this month.
