State-firm OQ announced on 15 January the inauguration of its new $463mn ammonia plant, after initial start-up in September last year. Located in Salalah in the south of the Oman, the new plant will produce 1,000 t/d (365,000 t/y) of liquid ammonia and is integrated with an existing 1mn t/y capacity methanol plant.

Deputy Chairman of Oman Investment Authority, which wholly owns the OQ Group, Mulhim al-Jarf said “the ammonia plant is one of the strategic development projects owned by OQ. It goes in line with the drives of the Oman Investment Authority to invest in heavy and downstream industries by leveraging the Omani natural resources.” Products from the new ammonia plant will be exported to international markets from the Salalah Port.
