Whilst Egypt has multi-GW green hydrogen plans (MEES,2 September), the most advanced led by Norway’s Scatec involve a relatively modest 100MW electrolyzer at Ain Sukhna on the Gulf of Suez (MEES, 26 November 2021). This took a step forward on 1 September with Egypt’s cabinet approving the award of land plots that will site the required power generation capacity. 205MW of wind capacity will be sited on the Gulf of Suez, but the requisite 70MW of solar capacity will be sited several hundred kilometers distant at Benban in southern Egypt.
