London based Greek firm Energean says it has exercised a two-well drilling option offshore Israel, where the Stena IceMAX drillship has just completed drilling an appraisal well at the 1.4tcf Karish Main field which is due online in Q3 this year. This was the campaign’s second well: the first saw last month’s 0.28tcf Athena discovery (MEES, 13 May). The drillship will now drill a development well at the Karish North before moving on to the first of the two ‘option’ exploration wells.

Hermes, on the border of Blocks 31 and 21, will spud in August and “forms one segment of a larger cluster of structures similar to how the Athena discovery is one segment of the Olympus Area,” Energean says. The target for the second well “is largely contingent on the results of the Hermes well,” it says. Energean previously flagged the Hercules prospect on Block 23 further east as a potential target (MEES, 18 March). (CONTINUED - 268 WORDS)
