Israel is set for its fifth election in three and a half years following the collapse of a broad coalition formed twelve months ago to oust former PM Benyamin Netanyahu from power. While it succeeded in doing so, divisions within the alliance which pieced together right-wing, left-wing and Arab parties were unable to stand the test of time (MEES, 18 June 2021).

The Knesset will likely be dissolved on 27 June, with elections scheduled for 25 October. According to the coalition agreement, foreign minister Yair Lapid will take over from Naftali Bennett as caretaker PM in the interim. (CONTINUED - 148 WORDS)
