Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh was shot and killed on 11 May as she covered a raid by Israeli forces on a refugee camp in Jenin in the West Bank. Speaking to the media, eye-witness accounts claim Israeli snipers took the fatal shot. Attempts to investigate the murder of the American Palestinian journalist are complicated by politics. Israel's Prime Minister accuses the Palestinian Authority of refusing a joint post mortem and probe. The Palestinians deny contact by the Israelis on the matter. Meanwhile, Ms Abu Akleh's colleagues are asking for an independent investigation. Tensions have risen in recent weeks with a spate of attacks within Israel and clashes between Palestinians and Israeli forces at the holy site of the Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.
