BP is set to be awarded the North King Mariut offshore block, in Egypt’s key Mediterranean gas heartland MEES learns. The block lies directly between BP’s West Nile Delta (WND) project to the east and a number of “West Mediterranean” blocks, awarded last year, to the west, held by fellow majors Shell, ExxonMobil, Chevron and TotalEnergies and BP itself with North Salloum (MEES, 8 January 2021).

Egypt’s Petroleum Ministry initially put the solitary block on offer in November last year but with little interest shown, extended the deadline from 1 January to 28 February. According to a MEES source the UK major is set to be imminently awarded the block (see map). In response to MEES’ enquiries regarding the imminent award of the block, BP said it was still awaiting the results of the bid round. (CONTINUED - 723 WORDS)
