The Cop 27 climate conference in Egypt has certainly put the wind into Cairo sails, with close to 30GW of wind capacity MoUs signed in the buildup or during the conference.

Egyptian contractor Orascom, France’s Engie and Japan’s Toyota Tsusho are the latest to jump on the MoU bandwagon, signing a deal on 8 November for a 3GW wind farm, likely to be built on the Gulf of Suez. The three firms are already partnered at a 262.5MW wind farm which started-up in 2019 and an under construction 500MW wind farm, both situated at Ras Gharib on the Gulf of Suez (MEES, 4 November).
