India’s LNG imports fell again to just 1.53mn tons for August, the lowest monthly figure since February 2019. Total volumes of 14.35mn tons for the first eight months of 2022 are down 14% year-on-year. This comes as sky-high prices have led to widespread switching to coal burning in power generation.

Prices rose again to a record monthly average of $19.58/mn BTU for August (see chart, MEES, 7 October). This includes an average price of $17.35/mn BTU from top supplier Qatar and an average of $37.33/mn BTU – the highest monthly figure for any supplier ever – for two cargoes from Oman.
