Oman this week became the latest Gulf State to announce a planned timeframe to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions.

In setting down a target of 2050, the sultanate aligns itself with the UAE, but ahead of Saudi Arabia and Bahrain which both target 2060 (MEES, 29 October 2021). Sultan Haitham bin Tarik Al Saud passed a royal decree approving the plan on 11 October, and MEES understands more details are to be released at next month’s Cop 27 talks in Egypt.
