Italy’s Eni has begun drilling its first exploration well off the northern coast of Bahrain. The National Oil and Gas Authority (NOGA) on 23 June announced the start of drilling on Block 1. Eni first signed up to an exploration and production sharing agreement (EPSA) covering the block in May 2019 (MEES, 3 May 2019).

Minister of Oil Sheikh Muhammad Al Khalifa had said earlier this month that Eni was preparing to drill an exploration well at the block (MEES, 11 June). He added that “we have just finalized a full enhanced 2D seismic [survey]” at Bahrain’s other offshore blocks (2,3 and 4) and “are about to launch a roadshow to invite international oil companies to come and have a look at some of the new data we have acquired.” (CONTINUED - 124 WORDS)
