The second and final term of Iran’s President Hassan Rohani is drawing to a close, with presidential elections slated for June. In comments carried by the oil ministry’s Shana news agency, Mr Rohani said that the expansion of the gas industry will be a major legacy of his two terms in office.

Gas production capacity has indeed surged during Mr Rohani’s tenure as Iran has brought online numerous phases of the South Pars gas field despite international sanctions preventing foreign firms’ involvement.
