Total is examining efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of greenfield LNG projects as part of its net-zero targets. CEO Patrick Pouyanné told this week’s IP Week conference that “we consider that we can do more on LNG… we can also electrify the LNG processes and we are working on a small train for a project in Oman which will be fully electrified.”

A spokesperson for Total confirms that this is for Total’s planned 1mn t/y LNG bunkering project at Sohar (Total 80%op), where Total aims “to develop a first regional LNG bunkering hub.” The plant will be supplied with Total’s equity gas from the ‘Greater Barik’ area (MEES, 18 May 2018).
